Immunisation Dropouts | Systems Thinking | Service Design

The project was presented at UNICEF for Youth Day celebration, 2024.

Immunization plays a critical role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3— ‘Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages”—and also contributes directly or indirectly to 13 other SDGs.

The Universal Immunisation Programme provides vaccination against life‐threatening diseases in the entire country. It is one of the largest health programmes, catering to a birth cohort of 27 million children annually. In India, immunization coverage has shown significant improvements over the last two decades, but full immunization coverage has remained stagnant. More than 7 million children in the country do not receive all vaccines that are available under UIP. Vaccines work best only when everyone in the community is administered.

The project targets parents belonging to urban parts, that consider vaccination as a personal choice for their newborns. Parental decision on child vaccination is a case of health-related decision that is highly involving in terms of affect and expectation. It is closely linked to the pressure felt by parents, especially mothers, because of their responsibility for all childcare related tasks, children's outcomes, and their need to protect the child from any harm or disease.
